To ensure government information and systems are protected in relation to value, sensitivity, and public need, the BC Government follows a specific standard which aligns with the Government of Canada’s information security classification levels, and enables better information sharing practices across jurisdictions.
This standard describes four levels of information security classification to be applied to BC government information. It represents a common standard for classifying government information based on the degree of harm that could reasonably be expected to result from its unauthorized disclosure.
This standard applies to all ministries, agencies, boards and commissions that are subject to the Core Policy and Procedures Manual.
Guidelines are being developed to support the information security classification standard.
