Under the OCI card scheme, Persons of Indian Origin(PIO), who are citizens of other countries, (except Pakistan and Bangladesh), but were citizens of India on or after 26th January, 1950 or were eligible to become citizens of India on 26th January 1950, are eligible to register themselves as Overseas Citizens of India (OCI).

Application for registration has to be made online through the web site of Ministry of Home Affairs https://ociservices.gov.in/ Instructions therein may be pursued carefully particularly with respect to supporting documents required.Please refer to the check list provided by High Commission CLICK HERE so that there are no mistake in submission of application. Part A and Part B of the application form have to be filled online and printout of the application form along with documents is required to be submitted to High Commission. Applicant who is above 12 years old is required to be present in person for submission of the application form due to Bio_Metric enrolement process. However, in case of minor children below 12 years old either parent can submit on behalf.
Documents required
The required documents listed below are indicative in nature and attempt has been made to cover majority of the cases. However, the Consular Officer may ask for additional documents after examining the application. After making an online application and uploading all required documents as per the check list provided for respective services, please report to the High Commission with a hard copy of the application along with the documents (originals and photocopies) and two photographs size 2’x2’ with white background (square shape with 80% coverage by face. The documents are to be produced in original for verification and photocopies of the same to be attached with application. If the applicant ever held an Indian Passport, then proof of renunciation of citizenship/surrender of passport certificate should also be submitted.
Kindly note that the High Commission will accept an application for grant of OCI status after satisfying itself on the adequacy and authenticity of supporting documentation provided. In certain cases this is likely to take time as the documents may require verification from the issuing authorities in India. In such cases the High Commission cannot prescribe the timeframe within which the OCI card will be issued. In these cases, at the stage of initial application, an acknowledgement will be provided to you. Applicants are advised to keep track of their OCI status online.

The High Commission of India may ask for additional documents if required for processing the OCI application form.
Processing time: It is not possible for the High Commission to give exact processing time but it may take approximately 60 days.

Photo should be square shape of size not less than 2” X 2” white background (with 70-80% coverage of face) without the border with front view of person's head and shoulders showing full face in middle of the photograph. it should not be stapled and not have any signatures.
Signature - Height and width of the Signature Photo must have aspect ratio 1:3. If child below 5 years is unable to sign, then thumb impressions (left hand) with Blue/Black Ink only will have to be uploaded. Minor children who are able to sign/write their names should do so and it should be uploaded. Parents need to sign in the relevant space in the application form.

If parents are divorced: A Court order of dissolution of marriage and Child arrangement order which specifically mentions that the legal custody of the child is with the parent who is applying for the OCI card and that parent can take the child out of UK for any number of days.
If both the parents share joint custody of the child, a duly notarized consent letter from both the parents to apply for OCI for child

Common Mistakes in Applications
1. Many applications are rejected due to poor quality of uploaded Photo/Signatures. Please ensure to upload good quality Photo and Signatures as per sample/specifications in page No. 2 above.

USEFUL TIPS TO MAKE FORM FILLING EASY AND AVOID MISTAKES
1.Please ensure you have all the supporting documents in pdf each less than 1MB of size and Photo/Signatures in JPEG format as per specifications before starting online form filling.
2. Fill all the details in the application very carefully and exactly as per documents. Please ensure that all the details like full names, date of birth, place of birth are exactly as per current passport.

4. Photo/signatures can be easily resized to requisite specifications/size by using photo editing option in mobile phones/Paint brush software in computers.
5. Upload all the supporting documents under their correct category/equivalent category. If applicant are unable to find suitable category to upload the document, please upload all the remaining documents (including any legal document) under current passport category along with current Passport or in Indian visa/origin category along with OCI card first and last page or in any available category as a multiple page pdf with 100-200 dpi resolution.

6. Kindly check all the details of the OCI application once printed. In case photo/signature and documents are not uploaded properly, these can be done easily by selecting appropriate option (Re-upload image/upload/re-upload documents) available on the website. Please submit your Passport and PIO card (if any) between 1130hrs to 1230hrs. You can collect your OCI card between 1630hrs to 1700hrs.
Applicant to come in person in case applicant is unable to come in person for collection he/she can send a representative along with an authorization letter for collecting the OCI card. The passport of the applicant, PIO card and the receipt issued at the time of submission has to be brought by the representative.
